Hötensleben, May 31, 1964

Dear Mrs. Scigala,

I hadn't expected to hear from you yet. So the joy was all the greater. Thank you very much for your lines. Money may not make you happy, but the fact that it brought you joy was our happiness. How glad we were that we could sell some works. Would you like to know where they went? A colleague bought "The Maiden Bridge"; a teacher couple bought "Mother and Child"; "Anne Frank" stays with me; "His Best Friend" was a prize for the village club chairman; our school bought the "Boy Playing the Flute"; a factory bought "Pioneering Musicians", a colleague art teacher bought for his school near Leipzig "Ravensbrück" and "Children Picking Flowers". So you see that another 180 DM will arrive in the next few days. I had to negotiate with the company first, they had also considered the "Fog Crows", but then dropped them. I hope to get the money tomorrow so that I can send the prints and the money.

One more thing, and please note this very well: Your works were recognized by all people - experts and laypeople - (with the exception of some non-authoritative functionaries). [Underlined in the original] [...]
